Come, thou fount of every blessing
All creatures of our God and King
I sing the mighty power of God
Nearer my God to thee
It is good to sing thy praises
Glory be to the Father
Matthew 11:25-27 25 At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; 26 yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
Galatians 4:4-7
4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.
26 Q. What do you believe when you say,
"I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth"?
A. That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who out of nothing created heaven and earth
and everything in them,
who still upholds and rules them
by his eternal counsel and providence,
is my God and Father
because of Christ his Son.
I trust him so much that I do not doubt
he will provide
whatever I need
for body and soul,
and he will turn to my good
whatever adversity he sends me
in this sad world.
He is able to do this
because he is almighty God;
he desires to do this
because he is a faithful Father.
A reminder that last week we started to learn about the Trinity. One God, three distinct persons.
Today we see God the Father.
Most people in the world believe that there is a god of some sort.
In that way Christians are not unique.
We are unique in believing in God as Father. Being a father means that he also has a son, ergo we have God the Son. He has relationship.
This shows us a personal God.
One who has a relationship with the world and it's people.
He is also almighty God.
Knows all, directs all, runs all.
He is creator God. One who can simply speaks and it happens.
The fatherhood of God that we confess is that he is our Father, that he adopted us as his own.
No longer under the penalty of death.
God is the ultimate example of what human father's should be. We should not diminish the language that speaks to God as our Father. He is our Abba. A beloved father.
The almighty God who holds and directs the world through his power.... HE adopted us as his very own children. And he continues to work for our benefit.
This world is a vale of tears.... But God will turn these things to our good.
Why?
Because he so delights to do so.
And so we can delight in knowing that God has called us his own.
