Glory be to the father
All the way my Saviour leads me
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
More about Jesus would I know
I heard the voice of Jesus say
All people that on earth do dwell
Matt. 1:18-21; Acts 4:1-12; Heb. 7:11-25
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
Acts 4:1-12
And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, 2 greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. 4 But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.5 On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, 6 with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. 7 And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Heb. 7:11-25
11 Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? 12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. 13 For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.
15 This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, 16 who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is witnessed of him,
“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.”
18 For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness 19 (for the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.
20 And it was not without an oath. For those who formerly became priests were made such without an oath, 21 but this one was made a priest with an oath by the one who said to him:
“The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind,
‘You are a priest forever.’”
22 This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant.
23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
We often pick names because of liking it or because it's a family name. In biblical times children were named after name meanings. For instance Jacob...heel grasper/deceiver. His name changes to Israel.. Meaning one who struggles with God.
This is also true with the names of Christ.
Why is the son of God called Jesus?
God gave him this name. This shows what God's intention is with his son. To be the Saviour of his people. He will save them from their sins.
Only God's son can do this.
We people are under a power that naturally turns us away from God.
God sent his son to die a death that we deserved.
When we accept Christ we die to that power. We are raised to a new life.
He is the only saviour available to us. Only Jesus.
Jesus is the one who can give us life.
People keep rejecting this truth. Saying that we are close minded.
But it is God himself who says these things.
How can this be?
1. God is the one we have offended.
2. Ergo God has the right to decide how to redeem that offense
3. No one else is the offended party so no one else can make that decision.
David sinned against Bathsheba, her husband, his people, but ultimately against God. Against you only have I sinned.
It is only God that we sin against.
Jesus is God's chosen instrument.
Jesus... Without sin.
Jesus... Lives forever.
Jesus is high priest forever. Always and forever standing between us and God. Always pleading with God on our behalf.
Believing in God, believing in Jesus is a recognition of this fact.
Trust in him. Knowing what that through Jesus the Saviour we are made right with God.
Either Jesus is the perfect Saviour or we have no hope.
Know this.... Jesus is the ONLY Saviour.
29.Q.Why is the Son of God called Jesus, that is, Saviour?
A.Because he saves us from all our sins, 1
and because salvation is not to be sought or found in anyone else. 2
30.Q.Do those who seek their salvation or well-being in saints, in themselves, or anywhere else, also believe in the only Saviour Jesus?
A.No.
Though they boast of him in words,
they in fact deny the only Saviour Jesus. 1
For one of two things must be true:
either Jesus is not a complete Saviour,
or those who by true faith accept this Saviour
must find in him all that is necessary
for their salvation. 2
