(Mark 12:38-40 ESV)
What do you do when Jesus says Beware? Do you listen?
I know that I don't always listen, sometimes I think I know better. Over my years I have learned that I DO NOT know better...it's better to just listen in the first place, though... sometimes I wonder. Silly isn't. Sinful for sure... oh my. I have to see it for what it is. When I question obeying God when he says BEWARE I am not glorifying him, I am not honouring him, I am indeed disobeying him... which is indeed SIN.
So what is Jesus telling us to beware of here.
Scribes who walk around in long robes and like to be greeted in the marketplace and have the best seats in the house and the places of honour. Those scribes who devour the houses of widows and pretend to make long prayers. These scribes will receive a greater condemnation.
So Jesus warns us against the people who like to look good and be noticed but really are hidden vipers. That's what they are you know? Fakers, pretenders, folks who hurt others. NOT GOOD.
Jesus says BEWARE these folks.
Steer clear of them.
DON"T be one of them!
That's the warning that Jesus sets before me today. Be real. Don't be an attention-seeker. Don't hurt others... .particularly those that are down and out. Talk with God and mean it.
Realness. God in me working.
