(Mark 14:43-50 ESV)
As I read through various translations over at biblegateway.com, all but the expanded versions sounded much like the above, as if the people Jesus was directly talking too.. those that came to capture him and who did so with violence, were the ones that ran away. From following scripture though, we know it was the disciples that fled.
It's a hard passage to read you know?
Knowing that Jesus was a teacher, a healer, God's own Son...
Betrayed by one of his closest followers.
For silver...not even for gold.
Betrayed.
Captured as if he was a bad person (a robber).
Having his loved disciples abandon him to his fate.
BUT scripture was fulfilled.
God knew that this would happen.
Jesus knew this would happen.
And it was allowed.
Think on that for a bit.
Nothing happens in this world without the hand of God allowing it.
God allowed it to happen to his very own son.
Why then, are we surprised when bad stuff happens to us?
If he did not spare his own Son from bad stuff happening, why should we be spared?
Yesterday in Church, Pastor pointed out how many false teachers say "claim Jesus as your own and your life will be problem free..health, wealth etc".
God spared not his own Son.
It doesn't mean that God's love for me (or for you) is any less.
He Continues to be, and will always be, our help in time of trouble. Our comfort, guide and Saviour.
