(Mark 14:51-52 ESV)
Sudden fear... so intense that leaving behind his clothes mattered not.
We don't know who this young man was.
He wasn't one of the disciples.
I wonder if he was a hanger on. Someone interested in following Jesus, but not part of the inner circle.
But of all the people with Jesus....he was the one that followed, this unknown young man.
He followed with nothing but a linen cloth wrapped around his body. From what I can research, the linen cloth would have been like the undergarment. So this lad wasn't fully dressed when he set out the follow Jesus when he was captured.
But then, to the young man's horror, he was captured.
He struggled.
He got away, leaving the linen cloth behind.
Can you imagine?
The fear that young man must have had.
I wonder though... was it love for God that drew him to follow or just curiousity. We can't really know can we? He's unnamed here so we can't really ask him questions. :) But we do know he followed, he do know that being captured was something he didn't want to have happen so he got away.
Either way...someone showed enough care to at least follow along for a while.
I don't know if I would have been so brave.
I fear I would have been like the rest of the disciples.. running and hiding.
