Trying to figure out what is the best way to do things.
I have a series called "foundations" that I got free earlier this year. The premise of it seems sounds but it seems complicated to me. I may give it a whirl anyways though. The link on the PDF leads me over to homeschooling Bible. Which I have to admit, I haven't searched the site and the site doesn't have a familiar feel to it so I don't know if you can still get it free there or not.
AH! Found out where you can get the books! the e-books are still free. WOOT WOOT! I do love free. Go here to foundations press.
Day one is fairly easy.
Monday –
Today your family is going to discuss some important Bible facts. Have each child open
his Bible and take a look at the many things inside:
• Table of Contents
• Old Testament – How many books? Count them!
• New Testament – How many books? Count them!
• Chapter numbers and verse numbers
• Footnotes, Appendices, and other helps.
God spoke to men called “prophets” the exact messages He wanted written down. Read 2 Peter 1:20-21 together. God wrote the Bible over 1,600 years. He used at least 40 different men to write His words down.
The Bible was written in three different languages: Hebrew (the Old Testament), Greek (the New Testament), and Aramaic (small portions of the Old Testament).
Why should we study the Bible? How will it help us? Read Hebrews 4:12 together.
Bible Verses
20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 4:12
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
memory verse
2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Methodology
day one illustrate it.
day two write it.
day three make motions for it.
day four see how much you can say of it.
day five say it all the way through.
Not sure if I'll do it all as they say as I envision practicing it verbally every day. So we'll see how it goes. doing the illustrating should come fairly naturally to my boy as long as he thinks on it and doesn't get hung up on the "I don't knows".
For instance I could see saying it often enough until a tune comes to your head so you can sing it, or chant it or something (that's how I tend to learn bible verses the best). We'll play it by ear a bit and see how it goes. All sorts of ways to learn bible verses. :)
