Took me three nights to read this book at night before bed. (that's when I do the bulk of my reading). Written in a time period when the 60's where happening.
It's story of mom and a lady she worked with. The lady's name is Lena and is a woman of faith and is the "wisdom" lady that the youth at the college they work at come to talk with. It's a story of how the mom learned to trust God more and know that God will act when he will. One of the things that stood out to me in this book was that sureness of our need to RESIST the devil. If we resist him, actively fight against Satan he will let us be. He has to if we're children of the Lord God. this came from here. INGREDIENTS:2 egg yolks 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup buttermilk 1/4 cup butter, melted 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 tablespoon white sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 egg whites 1 pinch ground cinnamon DIRECTIONS:1.Preheat your waffle iron. 2.In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla, buttermilk and butter until well blended. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, salt and cinnamon; stir into the buttermilk mixture. In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites with an electric mixer until stiff. Fold into the batter. 3.Spoon batter onto the hot waffle iron, close, and cook until golden brown. Waffles are usually done when the steam subsides. Changes I made I didn't have buttermilk so I just used 2%.
I didn't divide the eggs, I just had the lad beat all the liquid ingredients together. I added one scoop of protein protein powder and 1 tbsp of soluble fibre. It was a thinner recipe than I thought it would be. And there was a bit of learning curve with how much to add to the waffle iron without having spillover (due to the recipe being thinner). They taste VERY VERY good, particularly with stirred yogurt over top them. just YUMMY!!!! it got a two thumbs up and an enthusiastic report from my seven year old to his dad. :) I do some book reviews for BookSneeze. They send you books for free, you review them. You are NOT required to be positive, you just need to read them and then offer up your opinion on them. My Review I got this Ebook to read through BookSneeze. This book if written by Nina Roesner. It's a 40 day challenge for women to change their thinking, or at least to refine their thinking in terms of respecting the person that they married. Nina is very clear in her book about what she hopes to accomplish. Does she want to make women second class citizens in their marriages? NO! She is very clear about that. Her goal is to help women develop a true biblical respect for their husbands and realize how freeing it is to be in a marriage in a manner that God himself intended. It's a neat book. :) It starts with simply releasing ones expectations of ones' husband. Realizing his walk with God is HIS walk with God and your walk with God is just that...YOUR walk with God. A story, a prayer, and daily challenge questions. It's a book well-written to encourage growth and development in married women, with the goal to strengthen marriages. it is a good read. I do some book reviews for BookSneeze. They send you books for free, you review them. You are NOT required to be positive, you just need to read them and then offer up your opinion on them. My Review I have to admit, I STRUGGLED to read this book. I had high hopes for it based on the reviews I read from it, but it just wasn't the book for me. Now that said...LOTS of people loved it. AND it's not a bad book. It really isn't. It just didn't... work for me. There was one part of the book that made an impact on me though, and that made it worth reading. You know how Jesus was tempted? He went to the desert to be alone early in his ministry. After 40 days he was tempted in various ways by Satan. Jesus resisted that temptation. Well...the book makes it VERY clear how very human was. And this time of temptation was a TRUE time of temptation. Meaning it was a struggle and a need to Jesus. Now do I think that as God he would give into temptation? No! Then he wouldn't have been fully divine. But the human part of Jesus... temptation was indeed real. As the author states: If the eternal Word's taking of our humanity made him vulnerable to emotional pain, it also rendered him susceptible to temptation. When, after fasting for forty days, he grew hungry, it is hardly surprising that an early first temptation was related to food. This makes Jesus' understanding of us and how difficult temptations can be to deal so much more understandable. the book had a variety of insights like this, but overall, the authors style and my ability to follow it well did not mesh. I think overall it was because I felt the author was limiting who Jesus the Christ really was, and that uneasiness made me hold back from truly wanting to read this book. have to admit, I've mostly read fluff lately. But sometimes reading fluff is good. :) One needs at time an escape from the world. The long Road Home by Danielle Steele. Well... what a gripper of the heart and emotions. The realism in the first half of the book had me wondering what would happen...would the child live or die? Would the story then follow a different character? The last half of the book seemed a bit ...I don't know... a bit overdone and too focused on relational stuff. But wow..the first half will most likely sit on my mind for a while. The intense specter of child abuse portrayed in this book is so real that one weeps for a child so badly treated. I suppose that's why the end of the book seems a let down...I had so hoped the main character would somehow help make change in the world for others....but it just seemed a let down. A romance this book is. Jude Deveraux wrote Legend. It's a clever story I have to admit that. And it certainly made my story-telling heart go hmmm... what could I do with a plot like this? I talked it over with my son, telling him about a girl who went back in history...but went back to a pretend history and then went back to a real history and he was SO intrigued by the idea. We talked alot about the idea... which of course led to stories in Stargate and Star Trek when people go back in history or there are times of pretend history. It's an intriguing notion is it not? What I liked in the story?... The character grew and changed as the result of all the things that she went through. Lives were changed. A good redemptive type story. Just ignore the worldly romance type things is all. :) A very interesting book has Catherine Coulter written. This book is a thriller romance. Sometimes I think this author tries too hard to make her books scary...all I want is intriguing, and an interest keeper. BUT in this book... it wasn't over done. It was just a hmm... what is going to happen, and who really is behind it all, and when you do find out who is behind it all it's a surprise. The ending seemed a bit too.. I don't know..... too easily fixed for the good of all and the annihilation of evil. I generally don't think that life ties up quite so neatly. I really liked the character of Rafe. She was quite believable. :) read this book cover to finish but all in all.. DID not particularly like it. it seemed a bit too 'over the edge' for me. Just too improbable...or maybe in a scary world...too probable. Have to admit... I liked this book. The characters were believable. The nastiness of the people involved probable. The realness of the good guys was believable. A suspense/thriller romance. The good guys win out in the end and the bad guys get shown for what they are. A couple of areas which seems a bit overdone, but overall an okay book that I'd read again sometime.

have to admit, I got this idea from a homeschooling friend. She makes a hill for her children, so we were out in our first major snowstorm yesterday and made us a hill. :) The lad had a complete hoot.
He needed to do some problem-solving as to what snow equipment worked best and at times he went down the hill backwards. I wish I could have gotten a picture of him going down but sometimes he's quite camera shy. Every SINGLE Christmas I have had these cookies. I grew up with them. I really really like them. A few years back I asked my sister for the recipe she used as I wanted to start making them for myself. So now I make them for myself and don't have to depend on hand-outs from family or friends. :) Here's how to make them.Beat three eggs until frothy
add 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup brown sugar (packed) Beat until very light and fluffy about 5-6 minutes. Set aside. Mix together the following: 2 3/4 cup flour 2 tsp baking powder 1 cup ground almonds Then add the following In our family we double the amount of spices, This is the doubled amount, if you don't want them as strong tasting cut all this in half. :) 2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp allspice 1 tsp nutmeg 1/2 tsp ground cloves 1/2 tsp pepper 3 tsp grated lemon rind ...or add some lemon juice to the eggs and sugar mix Mix together the wet and dry ingredients. It is a VERY dry mix. Pick some up and knead it in your hands for a bit, if needed dip your fingertips in water to make it more pliable. Then form it into a rope about 1/2 inch in diameter. Break into bite-sized chunks (about 1/2 inch) and then cook in preheated 325 degree oven for 15 minutes (until lightly browned) YUMMY. Your children will be begging for more (at least mine does). Since dad was sick the lad and I decided to get out of the house on Friday. We went to see the movie "rise of the guardians". Good movie. Would NOT recommend it for the easily frightened or given to nightmares type of child. Simply wouldn't. BUT for a child who likes action, who likes to see the good guys win over the bad guys, this is a good movie. NOW.. do we believe in Santa, the tooth fairy, sandman and all that? No In this household we believe in God and know that all good things come from him. BUT this movie was a good introduction to the lad on some of the things that other parents teach their children to believe in. Even if it's silly stuff. I did like how they broke down what the Core ideas were for the good guys. Santa is wonder, Tooth fairy is memories, Easter bunny - new beginnings and I can't remember what Sandman is....hope I think. It was interesting watching Jack Frost grow into his position and recognize his own frailties. The Lad's response I liked it mom. Though I wish that one of the children could have dreamed about a Spider FBI person coming to help fight the bad guy.
