Since life was changed for us today with HOPE days being cancelled, we did some work in the basement cleaning out the cold cellar. And yes, I changed it into a homeschooling time as well with learning about science (food spoilage), nature study (spiders and how it can adversely affect a person's reactions), chemistry (dad has bottles of homemade beer), math (how we organize, how many jars etc) and history (the process of canning, why people needed to do it etc). Some explorers spent time with us. They marveled at all the places they could go to in their quest to find new places. They learned much about food storage and the need to be careful in new places (aka broken glass that go missed in the clean up) and how you need to be careful not to get stuck in places you can't get out of (dead centipedes in jars).
Had in mind tonight to do a baked mac and cheese casserole with ham in it. Realized putting ham into the casserole was outside my lad's paradigm of thinking so revamped that a bit to just making mac and cheese. This is the recipe I followed. Ingredients
Directions
The lad's part in helping Started to shred the cheese. Poured the milk cracked the egg (did this really well for the first time) Helped with melting butter Mixed the cheese.milk.butter.egg.mixture. Helped pour it onto the macaroni. We'll see how this recipe works out! We'll know in 30 minutes or so. This is what the lad's plate full looked like, kiwi, worm cheese, mac/cheese and some roast beef. He ate about 1/3 of the mac/cheese which is about what I expected, dinner was followed up by a roll.
I did mac/cheese and two kiwis (they needed to be used up). I think I wouldn't mind doing this sometime. Quick, easy framing. Just a rather neat idea I think. :)
Mix together
2 cups rice 1.5 cup mixed fruit (I used a frozen medley cut into bite sized pieces) 1/2 package of the imitation crab from Costco cut into small chunks 1 tsp cinnamon sugar about 1.5 tbsp splenda Chill. Eat. Feel satisfied. :) This recipe taken from here. Ingredients 3 cups oil 1/4 cup flour 1 tsp oregano 1/2 tsp black pepper 1 tsp salt (I used no salt salt) 12 calamari rings 1 lemon to squeeze juice Changes made: I used no salt salt seasoning. I didn't use the lemon at all. I just like it by itself. I approximately doubled the recipe. Directions
Ingredients NOTE: This is all approximate as I just tossed things in as I went. Rabbit bay leaf no salt seasoning from Costco barley carrots Sugar snap beans Corn onions celery salt to taste Directions Put rabbit in crock pot with bay leaves, onions (I used one big one), Celery (I used the end of a pack...so most of a middle - leaves and stalk), carrots (about three big ones) and sprinkled some salt over top. Let sit for most of the day on low.
When rabbit peels easily from bone remove it, debone it. I then removed the stock (put it through a sieve) into a large soup pot. Tossed in the bones for another hour of cooking. Removed the bones, then tossed in some barley (about a cup). Cut up some carrots (three medium), tossed in a can of corn, cut up some sugar snap peas (about I dunno...about a cup). Sprinkled on a good dose of no salt seasonnig and then cooked it up. About 20 minutes before serving I tossed in about half the rabbit (cut into bite sized pieces). Also added two big spoonfuls of spaghetti sauce. This is one of the best soups I've ever made. Even my seven year old liked it and he does NOT LIKE SOUP! :) Hubby also commented...Good soup hun. (he tends not to touch rabbit dishes). This happened last week Wednesday before he was due to go to Kids Club.
It's getting a lot better. He just has one spot which is quite sore yet and I'll have him soak in the tub today for a while I think. How did he do it? I gave him some soup and he got it safely to the table and then it spilled when the table was bumped. I was quite proud of him as despite the pain he kept his head and kept the burn from being worse then it could have been. A friend requested a link to some of my hubby's sermons. Here are some audio files hosted through SermonCloud. and here's the link to hubby dear on YouTube. :) |
