3 Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father's Son, in truth and love. 2 John 1-2
I can't tell just from reading the passage. And from skimming through commentaries other folks don't really know either.. She could be a specific lady OR could be the leader of a church. We really don't know for sure... but it is most likely an actual person due to words "coming to see you face to face" written later in the book. But who, we really don't know.
Either way this book is written to believers in the Lord.
This lady is loved.
And others who love the truth also love her.
Why?
Because truth abides in us and is with us forever.
Hmm... so what does that mean? Truth abides in us forever?
Well.. If we are believers God has sent his Spirit to us, that Spirit lives in us. God is truth. God is forever. So God (through his Spirit) lives in us forever. It's the binding force between believers, something that draws us together and helps us to love each other.
This is the truth to causes us to love each other.
Verse Two tells us of other things we receive from God: Grace, Mercy, Peace. We receive this through his Son in Love and Truth.
hmm... isn't that good?
When I hear of my dad praying, even if those around him can't understand him except for the word Father... isn't that a fine example of the peace that God gives us? My dad.. filled with pain and confusion, still able to just talk with God. This is a blessing indeed! And a comfort to those around him.
