(Mark 7:31-37 ESV)
A man was brought to him that was deaf and had a speech impediment.
Jesus was begged to heal him. To just lay his hand upon him.
Jesus took him aside privately, away from the crowd. Put his fingers in his ears. Spit and then touched his tongue. Looked up to heaven, sighed and said "be opened". The man was instantly healed, able to hear and speak.
Jesus told them. TELL NO ONE.
They didn't listen. In fact, the more they told them to tell no one, the more they proclaimed what Jesus did. They were so astonished with what Jesus did saying "He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak!".
I have to wonder about this.
Why would they be so surprised?
They brought the man to Jesus.
They BEGGED him to heal him.
And when Jesus did so they are shocked.
WHY?
I can understand if you don't think it will happen, Jesus comes by, heals him and the people around being shocked.
BUT since they were the ones asking and bringing... why the surprise? Wouldn't they have had the faith that Jesus would do what they begged him to do? Or was it more that they hoped and Jesus exceeded their expectations? I'm thinking it was the later. They probably thought, Jesus will do something to make his life better... but WHOA! Our man here can now talk and hear!!! Blow me away! I have to tell everyone what happened!!!
But Jesus healed him.
Totally and completely.
Neat isn't it?
It shows his power.
I've been shocked by Jesus before. When I ask him to help me with something and he does.
Just recently a couple in our homeschool group were shocked. They had a need. They needed some funds. The homeschool group was asked to help out (not by the couple but by one of the members). God provided EXACTLY the amount of dollars they needed.
Isn't that just amazing? The people ask, God answers, and surprise and shock from the recipent is the result. Its a blessing.
What has God done to amaze you when you've asked for something?
