1 John 3:16-18
In this passage he points out that if a person is wealthy, but won't help out those in need.. will that serve him well in the long run?
The implication is no.
Wealth plus lack of giving aid does nothing for you when you are dead and gone.
Did you notice that though? It's not just the having wealth that doesn't serve you well. It's those who have something and won't give to others who are in need that doesn't serve a body well.
Money CAN be the root of all evil, but money and wealth can also be used as a boon to help those in need, so if we have goods and are able to share with the needy should we not do so? Let's not hoard it, let's share it out.
Our love for each other should be so strong, that like Christ we would be willing to die for them.
I think of an email I just received, about missionaries out where ISIS is operating. Staying there to provide comfort for families who have lost their children because they wouldn't recant their love for Christ. Missionaries staying knowing that they could well lose their lives, but staying because of their love for their people. They need our prayers and our love folks.
They need MY prayers and MY love. I can't imagine the pain those parents are going through at the loss of their children, and yet their joy that their children held firm to God in the very face of death. What a mixed package. And oh the sorrow those parents will have. My heart breaks for them as they suffer this time of persectuion.
Oh that God might be with those missionaries and those grieving parents. May this not break their hearts so badly that they turn from God but be comforted by him.
Come now.. let us truly love one another.
Let us not love our 'stuff' more than we love each other.
Let us not use words to prevent action. Let us ACT our love out.
Giving freely to those in need.
That's what we (that's what I) am called to do.
