[15] And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. [16] And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” [17] And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
(Mark 2:13-17 ESV)
That's who Jesus came for. People stuck in their natural state. People who sinned. Not the good, not those who had earned their place, but sinners.
And honestly... can anyone truly EARN their place?
Aren't we all stuck in our sin?
And Jesus came to call me.... ME a sinner.
He left heaven for me.
He came.
He called four disciples.
He started his ministry.
Met a leprous man. Healed him. Started to work in desolate places as he couldn't just enter a town anymore.
Found Levi and called him to follow him.
He sat and ate with them. And didn't get up to move when people questioned him about such action. He stayed, and explained why he had come.
Why? To call me.. A sinner. Jesus wants to eat with me a sinner, to have fellowship with me, to call me out of that darkness.
It's good to ponder these things you know?
