Celebrate the Lord's Supper today.
At one time in this church a sermon was preached : why did Jesus have to die? the preacher had no answer, this is something we need to know.
Jesus had to die to make us right with God.
The way we receive what God has to offer is the same it has always been....faith in God, faith in Jesus Christ.
Put to death what does that mean?
1. physical death at the hands of the Jewish leaders
2. God's plan. This was a deliberate plan of God.
Because it was planned means that it was not a random, meaningless death.
It was also the will of Christ to do the Lord's will.
So it was God's own plan for people to kill God's very own son. God could have stopped it, but that would have condemned all of us to eternal destruction. He was delivered because of what I did. He paid in my place.
Ever since the beginning of the world AFTER the fall of Adam and Eve people have found ways to run away from God himself. And so from the very beginning God has laid into place his plan to bring us solidly back to himself.
Jesus went through that painful death for me. He went through the pain of the cross.....a death he deserved not, just for me...just for you. Just so that I will never have to face God's eternal wrath at me.
This is what Good Friday is all about.
Jesus taking MY place on the cross. THAT is GOOD Friday.
